Being a girl kind of blows sometimes, but most of the time it's really awesome. One of those awesome perks is if we feel ugly, we have the power to put cream and powder on our face and feel pretty- as awful as that sounds it's true. Also, I have a love affair. I have a love affair with lipstick. Oh golly goodness me I HATE lipstick. I refused to put gloss or color on my lips until my junior year in highschool after many many days of me leaving the house and my mother saying "you should add some color to your face," I don't know why, but it was just a hassle to me. I remember the day I bought my first tube of lipstick, I took it to my student council class and proudly sing songed to anyone that would listen that I, McKenzie Taylor Yee, am now a woman because I own my very own stick of lipstick. I hardly wore it because the upkeep of lipstick is annoying and tiresome, but I felt awesome. Now today I am a much older and hardly wiser McKenzie Taylor Yee, and I love lipstick. I mean, I have every shade of bright pink and coral red imagineable and I love how I feel pretty by just applying a layer of "sweetheart valentine" onto my lips. Yes, lipstick is messy and a lot of work, but so are boys, and we still love them, right?
So here's my point: lipstick is power. Now besides the physical effect that literally eyes are drawn to a woman's most powerful tool- her lips, her words, where her thoughts are drawn upon, but wearing lipstick gives me an extra umph of confidence. When I have successfully applied Maybelline's "fuschia flash" and I walk into a room, I feel as though I own it- although the only rooms I really walk into are the breakroom, my bedroom and that's about it, I feel powerful. What we as women have to say is powerful. Yes we can sway men with a toss of our shiny hair or a smile with a cute voice and a side of a pouty eyes, but our words, our brains, our thoughts are more than that.
So before going out next time, stop by your local Walgreens and pick a color you love and apply it with care, because our words are our most powerful force. As my favorite human Coco Chanel states, "If you're sad, add more lipstick and attack."
xoxo
Ps, happy national lipstick day lovebugs
